BREEAM Communities: Focus on Credits
BREEAM Communities – Interesting Credits
CE6 and CE7 – Onsite and Future Renewable Energy
A minimum of 10% of total site energy demand must be provided by low or zero carbon technologies. In addition, a proportion of buildings not already connected to active solar devices must be designed to allow for future installation
COM2 – Consultation
A minimum requirement is that there is consultation with the local community and feed back is given.
COM3 – Development User Guide
A guide is required that is very similar to the Home User Guide in the Code for Sustainable Homes.
PS1 to PS11 – Place shaping
Has no equivalent under the Code for Sustainable Homes or other BREEAM standards. A high score in this category should result in a safe, dynamic and attractive community. Extra credits are achieved from more than one of these issues for projects involving the redevelopment of brownfield and contaminated land.
ECO1 – Ecological Survey
Compliance with the mandatory requirements will ensure there is no net loss of ecological value to the site.
TRA1 to TRA11 – Transport & Movement
Has no equivalent under the Code for Sustainable Homes. The eleven credits in this category will ensure a comprehensive consideration of all aspects of sustainable transport.
RES1 to RES6 – Resources
These credits may be easy to achieve for developments using a specification that performs well under the Green Guide and having a commitment to source materials that are manufactures locally.
BUS1 to BUS4 – Business & Economy
Scoring well in this category ensures the creation of jobs, encourages new business and priorities local labour and skills.
BLD1 to BLD1 – Building
All dwellings must achieve at least Code Level 3 , and non-domestic buildings at least a BREEAM Good rating
