The Code for Sustainable Homes brings a new set of challenges for housing developers. Higher standards for energy performance linked to future Building Regulations need new technologies. The Code has six levels of performance. Level three has been adopted by Housing Associations and Homes and Communities Agency sponsored projects, with Level four to be adopted in 2011.
Many planning authorities are incorporating Code requirements within their planning policies. Code pre-assessment reports now form an important part of planning applications.
