Energy efficient building refurbishment

Housing in the UK accounts for 27% of the country’s total carbon emissions and more than 60% of the houses we will be living in in 2050 have already been built. To meet the UK’s target of an 80% reduction in carbon emissions by 2050, we must dramatically improve the performance of our existing housing stock.

As a result, the market is showing an increasing focus on refurbishment projects, reflected in updated planning policy and changes to Part L1b Building Regulations in 2010.

Furthermore, The Energy Act 2011 includes provisions for the new ‘Green Deal’, which intends to reduce carbon emissions cost effectively by revolutionising the energy efficiency of British properties.

We have experience of addressing the technical, environmental and social challenges of a range of retrofit projects. We can provide advice on:

  • improving the energy performance and sustainability of existing buildings
  • achieving EcoHomes certification (to be replaced by BREEAM Domestic Refurbishment in 2012)
  • the Green Deal
  • effective resident engagement techniques
