Daylight and sunlight analysis

A Daylight and Sunlight Report is often required by local authorities to demonstrate how development proposals may affect the levels of daylight and sunlight of surrounding development. It is widely accepted that adequate levels of daylight and sunlight can be beneficial for residents and occupiers.  The analysis can also demonstrate that the proposals themselves will be sufficient lit internally by daylight.

We are able to undertake this analysis for planning, using the findings as part of the Code for Sustainable Homes/ BREEAM assessment.

The Building Research Establishment  has guidelines on site layout and planning.  This outlines a series of tests which can be applied to development proposals, demonstrating whether or not the daylight and sunlight levels of surrounding development will be affected.

The British Standards provides minimum Average Daylight Factors (ADF) which should be met in habitable spaces, in order to ensure new residents benefit from sufficient levels of daylight. These levels correspond with the daylight levels stated in the Code for Sustainable Homes and BREEAM.
