We are pleased to have supported AR18 in securing planning consent for their proposed new Warehouse in Kings Langley. The approved two-storey development is tailored to house their advanced warehouse, workshops, assembly areas and office space, all within a single, efficient site.
Set into the sloping landscape, the building exemplifies environmental responsibility and innovative design. It is set to achieve a BREEAM ‘Outstanding’ rating, a testament to its sustainability aspirations. Key features include a timber structural frame, green roofs to the north and west, and photovoltaic panels across the southern roof.
Our Energy and Sustainability Statement outlined a holistic approach to efficiency, targeting a 63% reduction in carbon emissions. This was supported by a high-performance building envelope, biomass boilers, air source heat pumps (VRF), and mechanical ventilation with heat recovery. The design will also comply with CIBSE TM59:2017, ensuring minimal overheating risk.
Water efficiency was a central consideration, with low-flow fixtures, flow control devices, and rainwater harvesting systems designed to reduce potable water use. Provisions for waste segregation and recycling, alongside a focus on locally sourced, responsibly procured materials, further highlight the scheme’s low-impact ethos. We also produced a full Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) as part of the BREEAM submission to evaluate and select the most environmentally responsible design option across the building’s lifespan, securing them maximum credits in this issue.
We are proud to have played a key role in delivering a consented scheme that sets a benchmark for sustainable industrial development and look forward to working with the team on delivering this ambitious project.
