We are delighted to announce that we have recently achieved BREEAM Communities ‘Excellent’ certification for Bloor Homes at Crowdhill Green in Eastleigh Borough Council, Hampshire. Crowdhill Green is a new, sustainable development of 330 new homes in Fair Oak, of which Bloor Homes are providing 226.

Following the achievement of outline planning consent and BREEAM Interim Certification in 2014, we worked closely with Bloor Homes and the design team throughout the various Reserved Matters applications to ensure compliance with the detailed BREEAM Communities requirements.

BREEAM Communities seeks to ensure a best practice approach is taken for all elements of planning applications, covering a wide range of diverse issues such as cycle parking, external lighting, water use and ecology. In particular, the BREEAM process helped to ensure a sustainable community hall was provided on site appropriate to the local community needs, and sought to optimise site ecology and pedestrian links to the surrounding woodland.

It ensures a holistic approach is taken to sustainable development and provides a useful tool for presenting this to planning authorities, particularly in light of the National Planning Policy Framework ‘presumption in favour of sustainable development’ (NPPF, para.14).
