We are delighted to have supported London Iron Works Ltd achieve resolution to grant for the redevelopment of the Woodgrange Road site, located in the London Borough of Newham. A large mixed development site, the scheme comprises of 74 residential units and 1,233m2 of retail space.

We worked closely with the client and design team to provide an integrated energy, sustainability and acoustic strategy. One of the key challenges for the site is the adjacent busy A114 (Woodgrange Road). The measured road traffic noise levels revealed that acoustically treated glazing and an alternative ventilation solution would be required to ensure an adequate level of internal noise in normal temperature conditions in accordance with BS8233:2014.

We considered the acoustic glazing specification in line with the London Plan requirements for good thermal efficiency and to achieve a 35% reduction in regulated CO2. We were able to balance these competing challenges with an integrated glazing and ventilation solution that offered three different and cost effective glazing specifications for different facades.

Our services to support the planning application included:

  • Acoustic Report;
  • Energy Statement;
  • Site Waste Management Plan;
  • Sustainability Statement; and
  • BREEAM pre-assessment.

Our advice will help to ensure an acceptable level of internal noise and for the occupants of the new development while meeting high environmental standards.
