Whole Life Cycle Carbon Assessments
The Adopted London Plan has introduced a requirement that all referable developments should calculate whole life-cycle carbon emissions through a nationally recognised Whole Life-Cycle Carbon Emissions (WLCCE) Assessment and demonstrate actions taken to reduce life-cycle carbon emissions i.e. both their operational and embodied emissions. These assessments enable the design team to understand the lifetime consequences of their design decisions. This promotes durability, resource efficiency, reuse and future adaptability, all of which contribute to life-time carbon reductions.
Completing a WLCCE assessment also gives you significant credits in BREEAM 2018. It’s a tool designed to answer the simple question: How sustainable is my product or process? It assesses the overall environmental impact of your project, looking at your processes from raw material extraction all the way to end of life and quantifying the various effects on the environment in different impact categories – things like carbon footprint and toxicity and ozone depletion.
We’ve got extensive experience of both WLCCE and LCA for both planning applications and BREEAM projects and can help you complete one for your project. We will identify environmental hotspots in your design and make a number of suggestions for cost-effective improvements that will ultimately enhance the environmental performance of your building.
